German-Egyptian Script Writing and Short Film Workshop



APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 2nd APRIL

The German-Egyptian Script Writing and Short Film Workshop is a joint project for 8 GUC students and 8 students from the Universitaet der Kuenste (University of Arts) in Berlin.

The first project phase will take place between 20th and 28th April 2013 in Hurghada. Students will bring two of their own short stories to this workshop and work on transferring one of the stories into a first draft screen play. During the whole week German and Egyptian students will work in pairs on their scripts.

The second phase is scheduled 26th May - 3rd June 2013 in Berlin. All students will refine and finalise their screenplays. After this 2nd workshop we will choose 6 - 8 out of the 16 scripts to be turned into short films during autumn in Cairo.

The third phase will be during Winter Semester in 2013/14 in Cairo, partly joined by German students. We will plan, organize and shoot 6 - 8 short films within the regular winter semester schedule. Films are to be finished until December 2013.

 The films will be presented in Cairo and Berlin and sent to short film festivals around the world.

The Application

Media Design students from 6th to 10th semester are invited to apply for the project. Please send your application via email before 1st April to henriette.bornkamm@guc.edu.eg

The Application Should Contain

One of your own short stories that will be considered as the basis for a short film. The only constraint is that it must be realisable in Egypt with a small budget (i.e. no cast of 1000ís, no extravagant production values, no CGI) a letter of intent in which you explain why you are interested in the project and what you hope to learn you should confirm that you are available for all three workshop phases.

The Selection Process

During the first week of April we will invite the best applicants for a first interview.

8 of the applicants will be chosen. We will inform you before 6th April if your application was successful.

Fees

Participation is free of charge since the project is fully funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). This includes all travel and accommodation expenses.
