Montage (2 SWH)

Course MD612 | Magdalena Kallenberger

"As filmmaker, I ask questions but don't have answers. Moviemaking is a philosophical exploration. I invite the audience to come on the journey and discover what they think and feel." - David Cronenberg

Recycling Images – Found Footage Film

"Whatever the filmmaker may do to them – including nothing more than reproduce them exactly as he or she found them – recycled images call attention to themselves as images, as products of the image producing industries of film and television, and therefore as pieces of the vast and intricate mosaic of information, entertainment, and persuation that constitute the media saturated environment of modern – or many would say postmodern – life. By reminding us that we are seeing images produced and disseminated by the media, found footage films open the door to a critical examination of the methods and motives underlying the media’s use of images." - William C. Wees

Found footage is a filmmaking term which describes a method of compiling films partly or entirely of footage which has not been created by the filmmaker, and changing its meaning by placing it in a new context. Through means of editing, sound, voice-over, subtitles and/or inserts, the filmmaker tweaks the interpretation of the audience in a way that it accepts the new TRUTH of the footage. - Wikipedia
