Experience and Career History

  • June 2013 – present (upcoming) Coordinator and Design Team Leader for a treasure hunt day project to teach school students (13-15 year olds) the basics of computer science. The project is funded by a Google grant (CS4HS initiative) and in cooperation with the German University in Cairo and EDS schools.
  • September 2012 – April 2013 Coordinator and Website Development Team Leader of Festival | Di-Egy Fest 0.1, the first digital arts festival in Egypt (conference, exhibition, workshops, children activities). The festival held a 3-day international conference, an exhibition, seven workshops, and children activities. The festival was mainly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture; Sector of Fine Arts, German University in Cairo, British Council, Pro-Helvetia, Institut Francais and the Embassy of the United States.

  • GUC Robotics Research Group Supervisor (July-December 2010)
  • Spring (2009):
Member of the vision group in Festo Hockey Challenge Demonstration Competition in RoboCup 2009 robotics competition, Graz, Austria. (www.robocup2009.org). The teams compete to program hockey playing robots. The vision group is responsible to capture frames from the robots’ camera, analyze those images to detect objects. Then those objects should be identified to be the ball, the goals (team's or opponents'), or the robots (team or opponents). Afterwards, certain measurements are calculated like the depth and the orientation of those objects from the robot. Based on the calculated values, the robot makes certain decisions after coordinating with all the robots in the team. The coordination between the team is responsible for allocating roles for each robot according to the situation in the field.
Also participated with the team responsible to develop the behaviors of the robots. The task was to develop penalty shooting techniques using Fuzzy Logic Systems and Artificial Intelligence.
The GUC team won second place to France, Hungary, Switzerland, and Tunisia after losing from the German team with penalty shoot outs.
