Course Description

Introduction to conceptual workflow of :

  • Node-based compositing
  • Image transformation and merging
  • Rotoscoping and roto-painting
  • Grading and color-correction
  • Advanced matte-extraction solutions
  • 3D compositing
  • Creating of basic 3d elements
  • Integration of cgi and video footage

Optional: Possibilities of multichannel compositing
Optional: 3d-Particle Systems


Theoretical Lectures:

  • Optics and visual perception
  • Elements of digital color manipulation
  • The math behind color-correction


Course Goals

  • Deepened knowledge of digital image manipulation.
  • Usage of a node-based compositing solution.
  • Goal-oriented practical exercises.
  • Comprehension of higher compositing techniques.

Assignment Regulations

All assignments have to be given in the following manner:

  • One .Zip File max. 100MB. (If too big - sources have to be reduced)
  • The .Zip File has to be named in the following manner:
    "DC2_assign_Noxx_NameofStudent_StudentID.zip"\\xx for the assignment number.
  • All sources and project-files have to be contained
  • All projects need to be managed via "collect files" into one folder before saving.

Assessment Details

The following projects will be graded throughout the semester:

  • 1. Project Development Presentation - 20%
  • 2. AE-Tutorial Presentations 30%
  • 3. Final Project - Movie + Presentation 50%
  • Bonus: Monstereye assignment + etc.
